Extra Ensembles & Performance Opportunities
Credit will be received for special projects such as solo and ensemble contest, honors groups, and jazz ensemble. Private lessons are not required but highly encouraged. Private study on your instrument with a qualified teacher is the best way to develop and improve your playing skills. A list of approved private instructors can be obtained from Mr. Ewald.
OMEA Solo and Ensemble Event–students have the unique opportunity to study musical performance in a different environment from the large group aspect. Students will practice individual or small ensemble pieces that will provide opportunities for self-expression, self-discipline, and musical excellence.
The Learwood Jazz Ensemble-students interested in performing non-classical music are encouraged to participate in The Learwood Jazz Ensemble. This ensemble meets before school on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, 7:00-7:45 AM. Students must be a participating member of the concert bands in order to participate in this group, except for those that play guitar and bass. Participation is at the discretion of the band director.
The Learwood Percussion Ensemble-students interested in trying something different are encouraged to participate in the Learwood Percussion Ensemble. This ensemble meets after school on Tuesdays from 3:00-3:45. Students must be a participating member of the concert bands in order to participate in this group. Participation is by approval from the band director.
OMEA Middle School Honors Band-8th Grade students who display an an accelerated level of learning and performance may be nominated to participate in the OMEA Middle School Honors Band during the spring semester.
